Catholic Ethos

Catholic Ethos

The Catholic ethos is very important to St. Finbarr’s BNS and this year we plan to work hard to promote it. There are many characteristics that make up the Catholic ethos of a school and, while religious education is an integral part of our school life, we do believe that there are areas in which we can improve. This year we have decided to focus on the role our school plays in the wider Catholic community. Schools are communities made up of pupils, parents, staff, board members, patrons and others associated with the school. Our school is rooted in the parish community and together we aim to foster a sense of shared responsibility for Catholic education.

There are a number of targets that we will be striving to reach throughout this school year, and beyond. We will be adding issues relating to the Catholic identity of the school to the agenda for Board of Management meetings and will include prayerful reflections in meetings held within the school. Even though we feel there is already an active living link between the school and the local Catholic community, we would like to improve on this. The senior classes have been writing ‘Prayers of the Faithful’ that are incorporated into the Sunday masses in November and we celebrated via webcam a special mass for the opening of the school year in October. We would really appreciate any contributions or feedback that parents might have in relation to this so feel free to email us.
